General Information

This year is the 90th anniversary of the Kumeu Show and the RAS have awarded Royal Event to three sections. The alpaca section will be a ROYAL EVENT this year which is very exciting as the A&P show acknowledge that alpacas truly are an integral part of their show.

We are again holding the show over two days this year due to a) shortage of pens and space and b) the late finishing when it was held on the Sunday only as many exhibitors have to go to work the next day. The Huacaya will be shown on Saturday and Suri on Sunday. If you only enter one breed then it is not compulsory for you to stay both days, but you will be very welcome if you do. Local breeders are encouraged to take their alpacas home overnight on Saturday in order to free up pens for Sunday only exhibitors. In order to make the two days a success it is vital there are lots of entries for both suri and huacaya so please enter as many alpacas as you can.
The new non championship classes of ‘Most potential cria’ where you can enter a cria aged between 1 and 6 mths was popular last year and will continue this year. The cria must be halter trained (and so must the dam if she is to go into the ring as well).
Well behaved alpacas are also needed for the public ‘walk an alpaca’ arena which proved to be a HUGE success with the public and children in particular last year. Also, an army of volunteers to help with this (mainly on the Sunday) as it is very tiring when there are only three people supervising all day.
