2010 - Lloyd Johnson - Huacaya

Lloyd and his parents Sheryl and Kit have been involved in the alpaca industry since early in 2000. The family own and run Silverstream alpaca stud, which specialize in breeding elite quality huacaya alpacas.

Over the last ten years Lloyd has traveled throughout New Zealand and Australia attending prominent shows and competing at the top level. He has also had the chance to view some of Australasia’s best stud farms and prize-winning animals.

Lloyd’s previous judging experience has been in the form of the apprentice judging programme run by the New Zealand Alpaca Association; from this he has worked with some of the country’s top judges and has had two years to develop his judging ability.

“For those who don’t know me I like to see fine, well-presented animals and to take the opportunity of talking with the breeders. So after the judging is done please come and say hello and feel free to talk with me about your animals and how you found the show.”


2010 - Molly Gardner - Suri

Molly lives in Le Bons Bay on spectacular Banks Peninsula one and a half hours from Christchurch. She has been involved with breeding livestock for the past 15 years including Boer goats and cattle. Eight years ago Molly, her sister and mother began Thistledown Suri Stud, specializing in black suri alpaca…but when breeding for black, there are invariably other colours!

Molly completed the AANZ judge apprentice programme qualifying in 2009. She is always looking for opportunities to continue her learning and this includes attending alpaca shows, workshops and viewing quality animals both here and overseas.

Molly was a member of the Southern Region committee for three years and also a member of the health sub-committee. Molly is passionate about suri fibre and is involved in recent fabric trials. She has run a number of fleece workshops and has a published article about suri fleece.
