Classing
Alpaca fleeces need to be classed (or sorted), as the various types and classes of fibre perform differently during processing and can have different end uses. Uniformity of the end product is best achieved when fibre is classed in accordance with industry standards and requirements.
Fibre should be assesed for Finesness (Micron), Length, Colour, Type (suri or huacaya), Style and Character, Lustre, Condition and Vegetable Matter content. AANZ have prepared a classing standard for New Zealand Alpaca Fibre.
